News Article Writing Competition

Are you a high school or college level student who enjoys writing and journalism? We are hosting a writing competitions for students around the world! In this competition, write your own news article to compete to win cash prizes and staff positions in our global student-run newspaper!
Through this competition, you will gain experience in real-life journalism and practice your writing skills. All participants will also have a chance to have their news article published in our newspaper, which has readers in over 100 countries across the world! Read below to learn how you can participate in our competition divisions and get some helpful competition tips!
How it Works
Our student-run newspaper is unique because we only publish positive and uplifting news stories. In this writing competition, you will investigate and write one or more news articles that fall under the specified topics. All high school and college students are eligible to compete! Read on to learn about entry requirements, specified topics, and awards!
In order to participate, you need to let us know you are competing by registering here!
Competition Requirements
Currently enrolled in high school (secondary school) or college (university)
Entry reports a positive and uplifting news story
Non-fiction news story no older than 1 year
Article length between 500 to 1000 words
Must include at least one picture/video
Awards
We have two competition divisions: High School/Secondary School Student Division and College/University Student Division. Each division will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner.
High School/Secondary School Student Division Awards
First Place -- $100 USD & Senior Staff Writer Position
Second Place -- $50 USD & Staff Writer Position
Third Place -- $30 USD & Staff Writer Position
All Competitors -- Your Article Could Be Published!
College/University Student Division Awards
First Place -- $100 USD & Senior Staff Writer Position
Second Place -- $50 USD & Staff Writer Position
Third Place -- $30 USD & Staff Writer Position

Article Topic Categories
Both Competition Divisions must enter articles that fall under one of the following Topic Categories. Regardless of the Article Topic Category you choose, your article must be focused on a positive and uplifting good news story. You can submit as many article entries as you want.
Community Service
Write a good news article about any individual or group who are helping your community.
Technological Innovations
For this topic category, you can write about any tech innovation that is making a positive impact.
Sustainability
Building a sustainable future is on all our minds. Enter this division to share how people in your community are working towards a sustainable future.
Science
In this category, you can report on any good news story that is related to any field of science.
Student Leaders
For this category, write and report on any student initiatives or leaders who are working to make a difference in our world.
Education
Education is a vital need to build a better future for all. For this category, you can write about any good news story related to education.
How to Participate

Investigate a news story related to your chosen division(s). To download a list of tips and requirements, click here.

Write a 500 to 1000 word article reporting on the topic of your choice (must include title, name, & date).

Submit your article(s) through the Competition Submission Form, which will be sent to you upon registration.

Once your entry is submitted, you will receive a copy of your submission & be contacted if we need clarification on your entry.
